The Vote Is In!
Well I guess it's official. I've heard a complaint from yet another source indicating that under no circumstances will I be winning the "Queen of Correspondence" award this year! I can't say that I blame anyone, it's not my strong suit. I think it goes all the way back to my childhood years of sitting at the kitchen table writing thank you's after Christmas. It usually took my sister one afternoon to finish all hers - I on the other hand took the better part of Christmas break to finish mine. I'm sure my mother will attest to the fact that every note that was written took much prodding and eventually threatening by her!
It's just not one of my strengths. I know that I can't use that as an excuse. I'm just making a factual statement. I do have a long list of legitimate excuses which no one is really interested in so I won't bother to spout them off. The simple fact of the matter is I often spend less than 20 minutes a day on the computer and usually that is after 9 PM at which time I am emotionally, physically and mentally challenged beyond the capacity to write long, eloquent emails. And unfortunately I have a mindset that if I don't write someone a novel, do they really care to get an email from me?
Now, all that being said here's what I'm willing to commit to. For the month of September I promise to blog a minimum of 5 times a week and reply withing 24 hours to any and all emails I receive. I should put the disclaimer out there that no one should expect novels or deeply thought provoking blogs or replies EVERYTIME. That means that sometimes my response to your email may simply be, "We're all healthy and doing fine. Miss you. Love you. Sarah" This is a commitment about me improving an area of my life where I'm obviously lacking. My hope is that this exercise will help me work towards building better correspondence skills. We all know the little saying that it takes 30 days to make a habit - hopefully this will work for me!
You know the funniest part about all this is that many of the people who have complained about my lack of emails don't actually send me emails very often! So know that I miss my friends and family and think about you all the time, but just don't have or don't make time to sit and write. And I think everyone who knows me knows that I love to write, I just need to make more time! So there it is....out there for everyone to know and hold me accountable! Hopefully I will astound you all with my "connectedness" and be eligible for next years "Queen of Correspondence" award.
